Changing Times

A lot of things have changed in the past few weeks.  With services cancelled the past two Sundays and possibly more in the future, we find ourselves doing things like taking communion at our homes and having on-line small group meetings.  We are seeing that the church is not a building but the collective sum of all the places we find ourselves.  We are doing our best to call and keep in touch with our membership.  If you have needs or prayer requests, please do not hesitate to call or email the Elders or Ministers.

We continue to support Huntsville Inner City Learning Center, His Way, Hacienda of Hope and many other ministries. Due to layoffs and closings, we're also seeing increased financial struggles from Twickenham members and people from our community. Your contributions help us meet these needs.  Many are using our PushPay service to provide their contributions while others are mailing their offering checks to us.  If you would like to make a contribution to Twickenham Church of Christ, you can:

  • Give on-line here.
  • Give through our Twickenham app - To download the Twickenham official app, simply text "TWICKCC APP" to 77977
  • Give via text by texting "twickccgive" to 77977
  • Mail your contribution to the following address:

    Twickenham Church of Christ
    7500 Whitesburg Drive
    Huntsville, AL 35802

  • If you want to bring your contribution to the church, we have installed a locked dropbox.  This is located at the gym entrance.  To access it, go through the first set of double doors into the air lock and the box is located on the left side of the inner wall.  We will check the box daily at 10:00 am.

Support for Local Business

We decided to go out for a curbside Chick-fil-A meal today to support Jay and Beth Monroe (Parkway Place Mall location). We decided to drop ice cream at the driveway of our grandchildren so they could all enjoy some of our birthday fun....at a distance!

They Can Hear You Now

I have been very intentional about calling widows and shut-ins and just speaking a word of encouragement. It has been so well received and you can hear the loneliness leave their voices as we talk a while. Texting and calling are wonderful ways to let people know you were thinking about them!

Yard Work Turns into Campfire

We wanted to take advantage of the sunshine and do a little yard work. So we trimmed a lot of hedge and started mowing. While we were pulling the branches to the street our neighbors’ children ran over to help. At a distance we all worked together and then built a campfire and shared time together with our chairs spaced out. It was a beautiful afternoon with them! We talked about homeschooling and ways their family can be even stronger.

Camper to the Rescue

Some friends of ours needed more space with their college kids home and wanted to bring their mother here from out of town. So we cleaned out our camper and cleaned it up and took it to their house for their boys to sleep in and let anybody have some getaway time that needed to get out of the house. What a blessing to us, and every time we look out the window and see it gone we are reminded to pray for our friends who are loving their mother well.

Waffles for the Win

A couple across the street from us married four years ago today. She already had two little girls. We baked homemade waffles and potted a plant to take to them this morning to help their girls surprise them. A precious family who loves Jesus and loved being encouraged!

Neighbors Helping Neighbors

We have a neighbor who is a widow that we have been reaching out to for sometime. Her lawn mower got stuck in her garage and we went down and pushed and pulled and helped her get through it until a repair person could fix the problem. She told us that she loved us! Truly answered prayers!

Care Package for Recovery

The son of long-time friends of ours was re-admitted to an addiction rehab center this week after a recent relapse. He cannot receive visitors because of the COVID-19 outbreak and he is very lonely. Terrible timing (as if there was ever a good time). He can receive packages so we prepared a package of some of his favorite snacks, a sports magazine, and a book of puzzles and sent it to him to help him get through this difficult time, made more difficult by the isolation caused by COVID-19.

Beauty Parlor Blessing

I have been taking a 96-year-old woman to her hairdresser. She likes to go every Friday. She and her husband owned and ran the Dwarf restaurant here in HSV for years. Closed in 1985. She gave me a cup and saucer from the restaurant with their unique logo, for those of you old enough to remember.

Virtual Prayer Group

It's been a long couple of weeks for a lot of people. It has certainly been a long couple of weeks in my profession. So, skipping out on Friday morning prayer group for a second week in a row just wasn't an option. That said, we still wanted to honor and submit to what our government had asked us to do. So, we just scheduled a virtual prayer group meeting using video chat technology. It wasn't quite the same but for the most part I felt like I was able to share what I was dealing with got to hear what other people have been having to do. It definitely made another long day at work on Friday easier to deal with, knowing that my brothers were praying specifically for me as I prayed specifically for them. It was just refreshing that we were able to get together in spite of social distancing protocols.

Sunday, March 15 Service Cancelled

All through the weekend, the leadership at Twickenham has been monitoring the COVID 19 situation. There are now confirmed cases in Huntsville. Given that many of our members fall into the vulnerable category due to age or physical health, while many younger, healthier members work with, care for or live with those who are most susceptible, it seems wise to limit large crowd gatherings. We are not afraid. We are not anxious. But we do want to be wise and responsible.

We will offer an online worship beginning at 10:00 a.m. To access our livestream, go here

First Update: March 13, 2020

At the time this article was published, there are still no confirmed reports of Coronavirus/COVID 19 outbreaks in Alabama. We suspect that will change. Folks are anxious. You see it in the long lines at Costco, Walmart and Sam’s. You sense it in the cancellations of large group gatherings. You see it in the faces of co-workers, friends and neighbors. As disciples of Jesus, our faith rests on the God who keeps his promises, an old rugged cross and an empty tomb. So the first thing we want to say to you is, do not be afraid. The resurrected Jesus promised to be with his disciples to the end of the age. We aren’t there yet, so he is still with us.
