Ministries of the Twickenham Church of Christ
One of the best ways to strengthen your faith is to serve in a ministry. We have many ministries at Twickenham that will enable you to grow in the word and to use your talents and gifts for God's Kingdom.
Administrative Team: Serves to coordinate and administer Twickenham ministries.
Assembly Management: This ministry seeks to involve members by coordinating prayer leaders, scripture readers, money & attendance counters, communion preparation & serving, ushers & greeters, tape recording & duplication, restocking pencils & cards & washing of baptismal garments for our worship.
Children’s Ministry: The goal of this ministry is to supplement the family as a spiritual foundation is laid. The ministry is responsible for coordinating and planning programs for children from birth through the 5th grade. Nursery, Bible Classes, Bible Memory, Bible Bowl, Bible Reading, Children’s Church (2 years – 2nd grade), P.E.A.C.E. (Puppet Education & Children’s Entertainment), Summer Camp and lots of wholesome activities are planned and implemented by this ministry.
College & Young Adults: Church dropout rates dramatically increase post high-school and Twickenham is sensitive to this by providing a ministry to our college age and young singles. Bible classes are offered as well as Small Group meetings, trips & service projects.
Community Outreach: The Mercy Ministry serves as Twickenham’s benevolent arm to the community. The Ministry operates a food pantry that is open on Saturday and calls are made during the week to schedule appointments. Needy recipients receive a supply of food, counseling, & a seed of “good news”. At Thanksgiving, we put out an extra effort to provide a complete Thanksgiving meal to around 130 families. Twickenham also supports community programs including Meals on Wheels & Salvation Army Canteen.
Drama Ministry: Twickenham Church has many who are gifted in drama and others that help to support this ministry with technical issues, costume design, gifts of singing & set design. Our major production each year is the Christmas play. Throughout the year, individuals and team members may be called on for special dramatic presentations for worship or retreats.
Education: Our desire is that all of God’s people develop in their relationship with God and one another. To facilitate this growth Twickenham offers Bible Classes for all ages.
Elders/Shepherds: Elders are responsible for the spiritual care and oversight of the entire Church. They are committed to shepherding, teaching, exhorting and praying for the sick. They are to lead by example. Elders are reconfirmed by the congregation every two years.
Ecuador Missions : Twickenham supports Jerry & Pat Snyder and the children at the Hacienda of Hope Orphanage.
Facilities & Grounds: The Facilities Ministry Team performs a variety of repairs and maintenance of our facility. With hundreds of people using our facility on a weekly basis, many people are needed in this ministry. The grounds ministry ensures the lawn and garden areas of the property are well maintained.
Internet Ministries: Church web site (www.twickenham.org): We maintain an up to date web site with information on all of our ministries and current happenings. Web cast: Our Sunday services are web cast live and sermons are archived for later listening.
Ladies Ministry: The women of Twickenham try to follow the Spirit’s leading and serve wherever needed. Some of the activities and ministries include a weekly mid-week Bible study, a yearly retreat, a mother-daughter luncheon, meals to members during crisis times, and baby & wedding showers.
Small Group Ministry: Our small group ministry meet in member’s homes and other groups formed around special interests or needs. The Small Group Ministry is designed to help bring people together for closer fellowship, as well as provide an environment where each person can continue to mature in their personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Leaders help individuals gain further insight into God’s Word through group discussion and interaction as well as personal application in everyday life. Groups typically meet in people’s homes in an environment designed to personally encourage as well as challenge believers to live the Christian life to its fullest.
Media Ministry: This ministry functions as technical support for the many things we do around Twickenham. Included in this is sound & lighting and computer support.
Missions: Through the establishment of the Hacienda of Hope, Twickenham has made a long-term commitment to the children of Ecuador, and ultimately to the growth of the church in Latin America. With the purchase of land for the children's home and the arrival of our missionary/director in Ecuador, opportunities for involvement, both stateside and on Ecuadorian soil, are multiplying. Construction, encouragement of missionaries, "adopting" a child, campaigns, and medical missions are just a few of the potential areas of involvement in this great work. Please pray for the children of Ecuador, for our directors, and for this congregation as we begin and continue this ministry! We also support Rainbow Omega, Agape and Childhaven.
Senior Adult Activities (The 39ers and Twickenham Travelers): Several activities are planned throughout the year for our seniors. Our youth group sponsors a Sweetheart Banquet close to Valentine’s Day in honor of our seniors. 39ers enjoy local outings to the Brooks Farm; seeing plays at Looney’s Tavern, dinners out at resturants within a two hour drive, looking at the Christmas lights at the Botanical Garden & potlucks. If you are 39 and still counting, you are invited to these events. Twickenham Travelers enjoy going on trips together such as to the eastern shore, Nashville, the Northeast, and San Antonio.
Twickenham Kids (Pre-school & Kindergarten): Provides quality learning experiences for children from age 1 through Kindergarten. Twickenham Kids operates during the school year and offers a 2, 3, 4, or 5 day program.
Youth Ministry: Our youth ministry provides a variety of activities & events for Middle School & High School (6th through 12th grade) students. Retreats, summer camps, mission trips, service projects, Bible Studies, recreational times and a variety of social events are an ongoing part of this ministry.
Worship: This ministry assists in the facilitation of meaningful, dynamic times of worship & praise. The Praise Team, PowerPoint operator & sound & lighting operators are an integral part of this ministry.
“And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” Colossians 3:17
