Our disaster relief team, PAR (Prepare and Respond), has recently been in North Carolina helping with Hurricane Florence recovery. They will head to the Gulf Coast this Sunday to help with the relief efforts related to the destruction caused by Hurricane Michael. A group was in the Panama City area last week and here is a brief excerpt from one of their reports . . .
"We gave $500 of donated funds to a widow in Panama City on Sunday. We took a tree off her house and tarped the roof. She had stayed through the storm with her dog since she had nowhere to go. Her home was soaked from the large roof hole and she was just sitting in her home with no power or water when I knocked on the door. You can imagine the smell since it had been a few days with warm temperatures. She was very thankful that we had a little food to give her in addition to getting the roof covered before the next rain. We talked to a couple pastors of local Churches and the needs are great. All the small businesses are shut down so people are out of work in addition to home damage."
While PAR needs people to participate in the trips to help with the relief efforts, they also need funds to help those that have lost considerably in this natural disaster. If you have been wanting to contribute to a relief effort, but haven't been able to find a place where you know 100% of your contribution will go to the victims, we can help. Our group will use the contributed funds to purchase Lowe's and other gift cards that they will put in the hands of individuals in need of assistance. If you would like to contribute to this effort, you can turn your check in to the church office (made out to Twickenham church of Christ, put Disaster Relief in the Memo line) or you can contribute on-line here.
